Code Geass takes place in an alternate future where the world is divided into three superpowers: the Chinese Federation, Brittania and the European Union. Japan is now ruled by the Holy Brittanian Empire and is referred to as “Area 11” with its citizens simply known as 11s. Kallen is half 11 and half Brittanian and leans closer to her mother’s traditional Japanese nationality than her father’s Brittanian, and like her brother is a member of the resistance.
